Sachin Bahumick and Subash Ghai worked together for the first time. Though the theme of reincarnation was earlier handled in Madhumati (1958), Kudrat (1981), and Mehbooba (1976), the modern twist with murder and revenge angle set in Karz 1980. Subhash Ghai admitted that Karz was partly inspired by the 1975 American film The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, mixed in with Indian beliefs on reincarnation. The film's chart-buster song, Om Shanti Om, sung by Kishore Kumar, reached the number 2 spot on the Binaca Geetmala's annual list 1980, while another duet between Lata and Kishore, Tu Kitne Baras Ki reached number 13. The Kali Mata Temple became quite famous and many tourist visiting Ooty would ask for the place but in reality the Temple never existed as it was a set created at one of the studios in Bombay. Subash Ghai had called a fat person for a day's shoot for the song Paisa Yeh Paisa the person did not turn up for the shoot on that day and Subash Ghai decided to play the part himself and then on he was seeing making appearances in his directional films. Again the same case happened after 8 years on the sets of ram lakhan, subhash ghai choreographed 'tere naam liya tujhe yaad kiya'. Simi garewel and rishi kapoor came toghether in karz some 10 years after mera naam joker ( rishi was a kid in this film ) karz is Tina munium earlier film after des pardes, rishi & tina formed very good pair, during the shooting of the song 'dard e dil' the dance director couldnt come, so subhash ghai choreographed this song himself. The song 'Paisa Yeh Paisa' was sampled in the song 'Operation Kumar' for the internationally released album UFOs in Bollywood by Ratbath. ' Om Shanti Om ' was sampled from Lord Shorty song ' Shanti Om'. It went on to inspire several other Indian remakes, notably Yuga Purusha (1989) in Kannada, Enakkul Oruvan (1984) in Tamil, Atmabhalam (1985) in Telugu. The classical tune was played many a times in the film so Subash Ghai and Laxmikanth Pyarelal decided to compose a song on it and gave lyricist Anand Bakshi the situation and song Ek Haseena Thi was composed.Р”Р‡arah Khan's Om Shanti Om had some elements of the film and also paid a tribute to it at the start of the film. The film was inspired from Hollywood film The Reincarnation of Peter Proud 1975.

Laxmikanth Pyarelal won the Flimfare best music director award for the film. The songs of the film inspired several film titles, notably Paisa Yeh Paisa (1985), Main Solah Baras Ki (1998), Ek Hasina Thi (2004), Aashiq Banaya Aapne (2006) and Om Shanti Om (2007), which was seen as light-hearted tribute to the film, as it borrowed many elements from it. Subash Ghai launched his production banner Mukta arts on Octoand launched his first film as Karz. Then you will be able to find all of RZHB's work. This devastates Ranimaa, and leaves the estate open for Sir Juda to take over.

He asks Ravi's girlfriend to marry him, and then have him killed accidentally, which she does. He is reborn as Monty and is now a singer he goes to holiday in Ooty where he recollects his memories from previous life and inquires about his family from first life and his evil wife Kamini.Sir Juda plans to take over the vast estate of Ranimaa, but finds out that the beneficiary is her son, Ravi Verma. Ravi is killed by his wife after his marriage.
